Plein Air Painting Workshop, July 13-15, 2012

Led by veteran teacher and artist Arnie Casavant, participants of this workshop will be painting in various locations around Okemo Valley.  Taking advantage of early morning and evening light on the picturesque Vermont landscape, the class will run from early Friday afternoon through Sunday noon and each painting session will conclude with friendly and supportive critiques.  The workshop is appropriate for painters of all skill levels.

Arnie Casavant has extensive experience as teacher, student, and independent artist.  Arnie taught at Oliver Ames High School in Easton, Massachusetts for 27 years and more recently (through 2011) in Boston and Cape Cod for Northeastern University’s Graduate Institute.  As a student, Arnie has studied under the direction of accomplished landscape painters such as William St. George and the nationally recognized director of Yellow Barn Gallery, Walter Bartman.

Arnie’s passion for painting has strengthened over the past several years, as retirement from his full-time career as art teacher has allowed him to develop his own focus and interests.  In this time, he has exhibited his work at myriad locations, including a recent show at the Pearl Street Gallery and the Gallery at Spencer Lofts in Chelsea, MA, the Footlight Club in Boston, and the Yellow Barn Gallery in Glen Echo, Maryland.  His work is currently being displayed in the SOWA Artists Guild building in Boston and (through June 2012) in the Lobby Gallery in the Moakley Federal Courthouse in Boston.

Arnie has teamed up with Golden Stage Inn to create this Plein Air Painting Workshop.  Golden Stage Inn offers the quintessential Vermont Inn experience.  The inn, originally a 1788 stagecoach stop, maintains its historic charm while offering updated comforts and amenities. While each of the eight guest rooms has a private bathroom, various sleeping accommodations are available from twins to king, from standard double occupancy to 2-bedroom suites.

The workshop runs from July 13 -15, 2102, beginning early Friday afternoon and concluding by Sunday noontime. This package includes two nights lodging, full breakfast each morning, Friday evening wine and cheese reception, Saturday evening cookout, and the workshop fee.  The introductory rate of $440 is available through June 13, 2012.  Participants will be guided to contact Arnie Casavant directly for a recommended supply list and for any questions regarding the workshop.  For reservations and questions about lodging, please contact Golden Stage Inn.
